1st - 5th Gen Honda Civic As these Honda Civics get older and older they become harder to find in great condition and less popular to modify. By no means does this make them less of a contender on the track or car audio competition. Don't forget the roots of what made import tuning what it has become today.

Honda civic 93 Ex sedan Air condition issue?

Why is my air condition not working on level 1 or 2 but when I put it on 3 it blows cold air all crazy? Also why am I losing acceleration when the ac is on? To remove this ad, register today for free or log in if already registered!

Are you losing more acceleration than normal? I ask this because the ac compressor has a huge effect on our four cylinder engines.

Re: Honda civic 93 Ex sedan Air condition issue?

First off.... don't rush out and buy a new compressor right off the bat... they aren't cheap. If it blows cold air on three then that most likely means the compressor is still working. Most likely the blower is crapping out or something is up with the wiring or a relay. Or if the air is not as cold as normal on three then it the system could need a recharge AND the blower is going out. Most importantly UTILIZE the search function. Your car has been around for a while so I am sure many people have had that kind of problem before. If you don't have any skill in troubleshooting your car problems then I suggest finding a good mechanic because living w/o AC really bites.

does it work on 1 and 2 with the ac off? if those settings dont work at all you might be smart to start cheap and try replacing the switch. if that dont work take out your blower and see if there maybe something in it. if there is it could be heavy enough to stop the blower on them settings and when you hit 3 it has enough power to move

The air is ice cold when on level 3 and 4, but when it is on 1 or 2 nothing seems to be coming out. Hopefully it is something that just needs to be cleaned or unclogged.

Re: Honda civic 93 Ex sedan Air condition issue?

You may have a defective "blower motor resistor" They consist of coils of wire that lower the voltage to the blower fan at the lower fan speeds. They run hot and as a result the coils can open causing missing speeds. They are normally placed near the blower fan motor in the fans air path (for cooling of the coils) I would look near the blower motor. It will have, 3-4-5? connections made to it. Mounted with a couple of screws. Inspect for open coils and check with an Ohm meter.

Re: Honda civic 93 Ex sedan Air condition issue?

you need to disconnect them before you check them, or else you get feedback through the whole system, and your readings go all fugly and weird.

Agreed with unplugging the blower resistor unit before checking, Should be a single plug.
If any coils are broken you should see them easily with visual inspection.

The blower motor is most likely o.k. if it is capable of running at higher speeds.
