1st - 5th Gen Honda Civic As these Honda Civics get older and older they become harder to find in great condition and less popular to modify. By no means does this make them less of a contender on the track or car audio competition. Don't forget the roots of what made import tuning what it has become today.

What Engine doesn't fit in a Honda?

I have a 91 Civic Hatchback. D15B1 Non Vtec, base model, no multi port and just a 4 speed manual. just a 16 valve head swap and header. but its dropped, skirted, bumpered, tinted, painted and all the fun stuff. WHAT CAN I PUT IN THIS CAR? So can i put a H22 in it? Do I have to stick with a D series? can i go up to a D20? I don't care about the wiring. I care about what will fit into it. does it have to have a cable tranny? why not hydrolic? I know i can put a 5 speed into it. thats obvious. So tell me please Why won't a certain engine fit and why will a certain engine fit? oil pan? axle position? hubs? intake? wiring? this information will help alot of readers. I read i have to stick with a pre 92 swap. Why? is it cuz someone can't make a motormount? Some information please...
Greatley appreciated.

dude you could fit anything in any engine bay with a lot of destruction and refabrication... i've seen a crx with a supercharged V8 so maybe you should be more specific... also as a new member you may want to check out the search function to see what kind of swaps people have done...

Re: What Engine doesn't fit in a Honda?

man where to start with your questions.

1st of all the reason they are saying youd need to stick with pre 92 is cause your car is an OBD0 system but that doesnt matter you can convert it to an obd1 system pretty easily. as for motors you can honestly put anything in there if your doing it on a budget i suggest either a b16a or a d16y8 or z6 now the d series motors are going to be the most pocket friendly they are not going to be the most powerful. if your looking for tons-o-fun and money isnt an issue i say go for a b18c1 or a b18c5 hell even a b16a2. id shy away from k series motors in the 4th gen, only reason for that is people have had a hard time getting them to run right in there. and on h series motors i have no info cause i never really looked into them they never did anything for me lol.

wow thats just one big cluster **** of sentences with grammatical errors lol

Re: What Engine doesn't fit in a Honda?

Remember - Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. Ive seen the crazy del sol owners with H22's wedged under the hood and they wonder why they can't turn a corner over 20 mph....you want a good balance and power to weight ratio. Remember, a good car is more than just horsepower. That said - the 91 is an awkward year, and I know it sounds crazy, but it would be cheaper to keep yours and buy a 93 or 94 civic and slide a B16 in it than to try and put a B16 in a 91. They just weren't setup for some of the bigger engines. Yeah, you can do it, but it would be an advanced swap and not, IMO, for someone who has never swapped an engine before.

That said , look around and get ideas. Everyone thinks their swap is the best, but tr to find the best all around value.
