1st - 5th Gen Honda Civic As these Honda Civics get older and older they become harder to find in great condition and less popular to modify. By no means does this make them less of a contender on the track or car audio competition. Don't forget the roots of what made import tuning what it has become today.

11:5 LS/VTEC issues

i have a ls/vtec with ls block, crank, rods with B16(pr3) piston heads and a B17 gsr head. has 1300 miles and when u get on it, it has great pick up and toque, but when it hits 5800 rpms, it loses power and kinda struggles, smokes and spark knocks. i timed it like any other ls (top dead center) my last ls/vtec with ls(pr4) pistons was timed the same and ran great with no problems all the to 9500
it has 11:5:1 comp. ratio and running 55 lbs. of fuel

what could the problem be?

it seems to smoke all the time like it has a broke ring or bad valve seals, but when you retard the intake 1 degree, it doesnt smoke, but then has absolutely no power

it loses power at 5800? it might be the timing... but check to make sure the vacuum hoses and all that stuff is connected... check the tubes make sure there are no cracks etc.. you might be losing pressure when you reach higher revolutions... as for the smoke i have no idea... what colour is the smoke?
