1995 Civic DX rough idle what causes it and how to fix

1st - 5th Gen Honda Civic As these Honda Civics get older and older they become harder to find in great condition and less popular to modify. By no means does this make them less of a contender on the track or car audio competition. Don't forget the roots of what made import tuning what it has become today.

I'm probably not going to be able to help you, but I'm guessing that your going to need to give a little more info as this can be caused by many things. manuel/automatic? rough in gear/neutral? Have you done anything lately like change the spark plugs?

Cheapest thing I think could just be you need a new air filter. When's the last time you changed that?

Manual

The car is a manual and it runs rough when im just ideling in neutral when i am moving it runs fine but it feels like it is being robbed of power. My gas mileage has also became very bad lately. I put a cold air intake in the car about 4 months ago but this problem just started about a week and a half ago. I just changed the oil about 2 weeks ago so maybe he banged up the spark plug wires.

My friends been having the same problem on 96 ex, his idles up and down at stop lights. We may have figured it out this last weekend, when we tried to install a throttle body spacer on my 96, we installed it but when we started it, it would idle to 4000 and after 15 sec. drop to 2500 and go between there and 3500. Finally after trieing to figure it out, we said fu&& it and took it off, and just replaced the gasket, still when we started it, it would do thesame thing. Then i didn't know whatto do so i took the original gasket and put it back in, and no problem. So you may want to check your throuttle body gasket. We've tried new idle air control valve, no luck, so hopefully this will work.
Hope it helps later

i've read that when the idle goes up and down, it has to do with the throttle... it needs to be replaced... as far as i know

try fuel injector cleaner, or a whole fuel system cleaner. its like $5 a bottle. it worked on my cx. it would get rough and seem to get bogged down at idle. this seemed to help solve most of the problem.
