Rep Power: 0 First "Mini-me" swap - Question
For a while now I've had issues with idle/overheating/leaks/ you name it..so decided that if I'm going to do a head gasket change why not pick up a cheap rebuilt y8 head for some vtec action haha. well here's where I stand on the swap..i forget the member who linked me to the YouTube video but it was on point and in no time Head is finally off and I could see what was going on:
My only question id what the circled holes are for in the picture of the y8 head..I know that I need to swap over some things from the y8 still but I have no idea what would go there or what they're for. Sorry if it sounds like a noob question - first timer with a mini me vs complete swap Also those who've done it any advice etc?

According to the linked diagram below they look to be the Lost Motion Assembly and LMA holders.

Thanks for the info. This wouldn't be an issue I wouldn't think.... 200y8 on a 2000y7 block....Also...Since I'm still cleaning up the entire engine Bay while have room....Would you know how to accidentally slowly remove AC from lines....Asking for a friend.....Overseas I was certified to use Evacuation tool or purge if none were nearby...In the u.s however..... Something as easy as a pin size hole leak??? Again asking for a friend...

Do you intend to "accidently" allow freon into the atmosphere? There's no difference between US and Europe... need to have it evacuated and contained properly/legally.

Plenty of info on the net concerning mini-me swaps so do some research. The LMA's shouldn't be an issue.

This is better than Youtube...free service manual download: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/46...nda-Civic.html
Can all be found on stock '96-'00 EX model. Pull the knock sensor too because, a new OEM one is expensive ($200) and the Ebay one's are crap.
These guys are offically torqued too..lol:

haha right on. I've got that manual downloaded. The y7 block I believe does have a spot for a knock sensor from what I've read..I still have 56$ on amazon so trying to get everything together. plus hitting pick n pull in an hour or so

Haha man. Until it rained me out thought I'd get it all today... Nope.. just the ECU which I believe is good find.
Untouched P2P a84.. came off what I thought (and what was displayed on car) a 99'. Ex auto....Still have research to do with that anyways....Also I do not need any oil pressure switch along with vtec wire correct. Isn't it inside the head already???
Aggh. Should have bought a b20... Also until I buy fuel rail/Injectors you think the y7 setup would work? Already have it on a Y8 IM...

Refer to this diagram: http://s164.photobucket.com/user/The...witch.jpg.html
I have one in my '95 EX coupe and the torque across the powerband is very noticeable compared to a 1.6L.
Not sure. Shouldn't hurt to try it though as they are both 1.6L engines. Worse that can happen is it won't run properly.

alright. my "genuine" Honda leak less intake manifold is out for delivery according to usps...It didn't come with the regular guy who walks so hoping it shows on the little package truck.... either way today I have to adjust EVERY valve because when it was rebuilt it was pretty much thrown on just enough to not fall apart...slowly but surely its coming along (not sure if anyone is even following haha). still looking for a reasonably priced vtec solenoid. and knock..(ill grab the knock from pick n pull when the rain stops) amazon had awful reviews on their 8$ sensor compared to Hondas out of control 50-80? so all I have left:
solenoid and connector (pigtail connector is en route via mail)
knock sensor (awaiting CA weather)
y8 fuel rail/injectors? (more googling on that)
Throttle body? + gasket (cleaned my y7 just in case, gasket is a must either way) I've been running the y7 TB on y8 IM anyways.. Also I have a b18 TB that matches but the IACV looks off and I don't know how or where I'd connect lines/ block what off etc.
I may be wrong but as far as wiring vtec my p2p (off an auto EX) should work. Given I wire it up of course.
By the way how do I get one of those cool "rep points" lol...I want a rep point.
Pictures attached:
Cleaned up y8 manifold. Bought block off plate for the rear since it was off a 5 speed... the IACV with the green on it is the y7...now the other one that is sitting on the IM and wooden table is from a B18 Ls...just curious if this couldn't work...slightly larger than the y7 but fits..

Alright, hated to spend it buy honda has a vtec solenoid in the way. Still going to yank a knock sensor as well...Doing best to avoid CEL (minus the emissions) adjusted valves yesterday since head came with them barely screwed on...Went .008 intake and. .010 exhaust those were the happy medium between oem specs... Closer I get closer I second guess my work....IE. weird TQ wrench was it Calibrated right? Did I twist dial correctly etc... Anyways to those following if any here's pictures as if last night.....Took one of my y7 TB vs b18 TB I had..... Almost identical anyone know if I could use that..Bolts right up just slightly larger etc...
Well today I'll see about this ECU double check valves And then valve cover is going on.... Also...For now o left y7 fuel rail and Injectors ( want to swap it all at same time..Maybe newer injectors high flow fuel rail fpr .Etc...I know y8s on a y7 make you run too rich...Not sure if y7s would be too lean?? Ahhh what else did I overlook??

Are you a member of Honda Tech? If not, you might want to post there as well. HT seems to have more people into swaps, tuning, etc.. So, you might get more focused feedback there.
This site is mellower and IMO better for feedback on stock Civics. Not to say that there isn't people here who have performed swaps and tunes but, just seems to be more on HT.

well,
delayed until at least Monday...i got curious and wanted to see if i could get power (iG II) i did for a second/ didn't hear fuel pump. then mistakenly cranked for half a sec thinking i was still IG 1.... checked out the ecu..for burns etc...turns out its a p2p from 96-98 and i needed 99-00 or 00-01(integra)...............great....so after some "venting" decided since timing could be off anyways new timing belt with crank tool...gives me time to hit junk yard OR find a vtec controller...with amount i've spent id have a semi built b20....one thing after another i swear
