1997 civic ex shifter bushings

Cant really find a guide, but I'm trying to replace my shifter bushings in the front near the transmission but when I tried to twist the 12mm bolt it just broke my 12mm. So the bolt is still there, and still tight. I need to replace the bushings because my shifter will slide and wiggle INCHES when I'm in gear so it's really easy to miss a gear and it just feels sloppy. I went under the car and my shift rod I think it's called, also has a lot of wiggle room and I ordered my bushings I just need to figure out how to install them, thank you.

You were removing the bolt right; Not the nut? The nut is welded in.
