Gear shift came off in hand, no longer can i remove. Keys from ignition.

Is it possible my ignition key cannot be removed because shift lever not fully engaged in park electronically? Might i have reassembled the shift handle wrong? Or. Is it just quensidence that my shift lever fell off in my hand and my ignition switch decited not too cough up my key( or not function). I am able too start ingition shift into drive, reverse an park , im just not able turn the key all the way back to remove the key. I have to pop hood latch and disconnect battery terminal, too keep from draing the battery, please help this. Thanks.

Reinstall shifter handle.

When shifter is in Park, P should be lit on the gauges, and the button you push with your thumb has to be locked (foot off the brake) before the key will be allowed to turn to the 0 position.

If you have it somehow preventing the thumb button from fully locking, figure out what happened.

Tried both, neither solved the problem.is there a cylinoid, which signals the ignition switch whenever the shift lever is in park? Where would this be , under shift console or in steering column?
