Rep Power: 0 muffler dragging - options?
as a result of bottoming out and then railroad tracks, my muffler is now hanging low enough to drag. i had someone look at it and the esiieastr 'resolution' in their opinion would simply be to cut it off. obviously thisi s not ideal, noise-wise for one, and im wondering about the effect on future costswhen i would bve recompleting myu exhaust system---and if it would be poissible to simply end the suspensions BACK, WITH PLIARS, OR SOME SUCH? /IF I DO REMOVE IT, HOW DIFFICULT IT WOULD BE TO DO MYSELF

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: catalytic converter dragging - options?
Second pic looks like the muffler not the cat. Wire it up with coat hanger. Take it to an exhaust shop to fix it or replace as necessary.
Can't tell what the first pic is.

oh, sorry, i messed up the pictures! anyway, ii thought it was the muffler, the AAA guy that towed me agreed, and then the guy that looked at it/sugested removing said it was the cat. either way, it seems too heavy to wire up (which is what i had said i wanted to do, and told AAA,, qnd the guy said he couldnt--i dont know if he just meant that he couldnt, or it couldnt be done/how knowledgerable he was overall

Tow truck driver is probably not allowed to do it.
Steel Coat hanger is Damn strong it will hold it up just fine if you do it right.

thats what ive decide to do; i realized the realize it seemed so heavy was actually that one side was about 90% cracked off (rust/erosion from the NE salt!!) and the piles were at opposiing atngles to it---so bent the muffler back sort together.
gibven the exhaust pipe was hanging by a shred of rusty metal, i pulled that off. and im gonna try and wrap a hanger around it. but the connecting pip and all of it is very rusty and out of shape.
is there any risk of fire etc? just want to be safe...

Re: muffler dragging - options?
In the past, I've used fiberglass exhaust wrap to hold my crumbling muffler together. I wrapped it around the muffler body and then tied it to the muffler hangers on the underside of the car. It's held up to two winters so far.
