1998 Civic Stalls

I have a 1998 Civic that will intermittently stall. The vehicle will not re-start for 5 - 10 minutes. I have replace the Main Relay, Distributor, Ignition Control Module, Ignition Coil, and lastly the Key Ignition. I have not replace the Temperature Control Module. Any ideas what else may be wrong?

Re: 1998 Civic Stalls

The car is not throwing any codes, check engine light does not come on. If it were the MAP sensor, it should throw a code.

Re: 1998 Civic Stalls

Check fuel pressure.

If ignition system and starter are working then the last item for combustion is fuel.

I had a faulty fuel pump at 150,000km which made my car stall out.

Try this as well, before you start the car prim the fuel lines four times.
Just turn the key two clicks so the dash is on but not the engine, wait 4 seconds, then turn the ignition all the way off. Repeat this three more times, then try starting the car.

If it starts right away you have a fuel pressure issue. If it still stalls you may still have a fuel pressure issue (use a pressure gauge to verify).

Re: 1998 Civic Stalls

generye,

I was having the same issue in my 98 LX for the longest time. It seemed that it would happen more frequently if I was turning or braking hard. It plagued me for a while. I also replaced the distributor, battery, alternator, ground cables, checked and triple checked fuses. I know you wrote that you replaced the key ignition. I was curious if you also meant the entire ignition harness itself? If not try that next, I had a local shop replace mine and not only has it not shut off on me but it seems my car starts easier too. There is also a recall stating that the contacts can degrade thus stalling the engine without warning. Here is the recall and the link. Hope this helps!
