Rep Power: 0 Manual Gearbox Interchangeability
I have a year 2000 1.4s hatchback (old style, floor gearchange) where the manual 5-speed gearbox input shaft has started making a noise. If it gets worse and I have to fix or replace, I was wondering what the possibilities are for fitting a secondhand transmission. Do I need to just look for a gearbox from a 1.4 Civic or are the gearboxes from a 1.5, 1.6 also compatible?

Doing some googling suggests that any gearbox from a D-Series will fit but obviously the ratios might not be best suited to a 1.4 if the box was from a bigger-engined car. I understand the 1.4 and 1.6 are the same block, just different crank.
