If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: Crankshaft position sensor
Oh yeah that one sucks and it's been a long time since I've had to get one apart.
Try to get the connector loose from its mounting tab so you have some room to get your fingers around it?
Take off the top bracket for the alternator and lean the alternator toward the rear as far as it will easily go? (I don't have a car to look at, so I can't tell if this would really help)

Ah here:

Crankshaft Fluctuation Sensor. Not sure if it is what the engine uses to time the spark as with most normal crankshaft sensors; I thought that signal came from the distributor but maybe that is only on earlier engines?

Here we go:

"The ECU uses the 3 sensors inside the distributor to coordinate fueling and timing efforts. The CKF sensor was introduced for OBD2 misfire detection and will not keep your car from starting."

Re: Crankshaft position sensor
The camshaft does turn, right?
Pull distributor cap off, check for spark directly out of the ignition coil.
Make sure the rotor spins when the engine is cranked.
Use a grounded wire or grounded screwdriver to check for spark at the coil. Hold it up to the coil tower and have someone crank it for you. See how much spark you can get (how long of a spark you can get).
If you get lightning bolts coming out like over a half inch long it's good and your problem should be in the cap/rotor/wires.
If you can only get the tiniest spark to happen like only 1/16 inch long and no more, it's a bad coil.
If no spark at all then more checks are needed.
