How often do you need to do a tune up on your car?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Standard cheap spark plugs, every 30k miles.
Precious metal $$ plugs, 100k miles.

Re: How often do you need to do a tune up on your car?
I have just over 250,000 miles on my 2000 civic vp. My wife has owned the car since new. It still has original cap/rotor and spark plug wires. The car runs strong. The only think I did was put new spark plugs. Don't replace stuff "just because." Also, I think a lot of the suggested changes from Honda, and other car manufacturers is overkill. For example, my Tacoma manual indicates to change the fuel filter every 30K. I am still on the original and the truck has 285,000 miles on it!
Long story short, don't do a tune up unless it is showing symptoms or you are wasting your money.
