Rep Power: 0 Where should the temp needle be
I have a 1999 honda civic dx. After running for a few miles the temperature needle goes up to right under the waves on the temperature symbol and stays there turning on the heater doesn't change this at all. Is this normal or should I be looking for the problem. I have changed the thermostat thermosenser and radiator fan and checked the radiator. Am I worrying over nothing or overlooking something

How high up is that? You should post a pic. On my 7th gen, that's right where mine stays, and it's only like 1/3 of the way up. If you're REALLY worried, you can get your OBDII canned while the car is running to get a raw temperature. My temp usually runs about 90-95 Celsius when it's fully warmed up.

1. Take the picture
2. Get it to your computer somehow, like through a usb cable or Google Drive
3. Upload it to an image hosting site. I use tinypic.com
4. Copy the text under "Message Board" and paste it as a reply here.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: Where should the temp needle be
There are two temperature sensors screwed into the end of the cylinder head roughly below the distributor.
The single wire sensor operates the gauge on the dash.
The sensor with two wires is used by the engine computer.
I'd plug a scanner in and read live engine data, watch and see what the computer says the engine temp is. (Basically the same as what poopies already said.)
Both sensors should pretty much indicate the same temperatures in their respective units.
That is about half way
OP can click this icon and paste the image address in the popup box, this hotlinks the pic right into the post. (IDK it that works on a mobile device though.)
