..apologies if this has been discussed to death, but I need to fix this. The car (Civic ’96) has done 88,0000 miles - is in great shape - not using a drop of oil, water or anything bad or untoward. However the temp gauge has stated going up beyond the usual “just under halfway mark” – which (until now) is always the position come rain or shine. So now it’s warm weather I see the needle wander way up toward the red – even though I’m cruising real gentle. I switch on the heater fan and suck the air out the engine bay which helps cool it a bit. I’m guessing it’s a fan issue? That is – it aint coming on at the right time? Any ideas guys ?? many thanks ;-)

Hey greetings. The water coolant is perfectly good no leakage no steam no nothing, all as it should be. I got 2 fans at the front of the car ?.think one is for Aircon and the other is for the radiator. I drove through town for about an hour yesterday and when I looked, The Aircon fan was working okay but the radiator fan was stationary . The engine was pretty hot so I figured it ought really to be spinning around .

Yes it does come on " eventually " like right now I've driven about eight miles urban driving stop start, and towards the end of the journey the temperature gauge was really high .. Like the needle four fifths high up the scale to max. So I looked at the phone and it wasn't moving . Then after a minute or two with the engine still running it, it started spinning. So yes the fN works but it seems delayed as if it's waiting for a higher temperature to trigger it.

Yeah, it COULD be. You should try getting your vehicle scanned while it's running to see if the temperature is a bit off. My '03 usually runs between 90-95 Celsius. You can get scanned at your local auto parts store. Just don't buy anything until you do your own research.
