VTEC ? & Motor oil

I'm new to Civics. I'm trying to figure out if all civics are vtec's. I have a 00 EX, D16Y8, and when I look up parts online, at say, Autozone, it says I have a vtec engine. I do know the engine is a sohc. Also, I will be putting a lot of miles on this car on the hi-way, running 75-85 mph. At that speed it will be humming at about 3500 rpm...and I'd like to know if 10w40 would be too thick a motor oil for this car. The oil would be Mobil 1 Synthetic.

10W-40 would be way too thick and would only kill your MPG. Go with a 5W-20 if your engine is healthy (Honda backed dated their recommendation of 5W-20 for the 6G civics a couple years ago now). If it burns a bit, go with 5W-30 Mobil 1.

Re: VTEC ? & Motor oil

i would stick with 5w30 for highway driving. the 20 falls apart too easily in the heat.

Re: VTEC ? & Motor oil

5w-30 should work out the best. 5w-20 seems to burn alot more especially in hot weather. If you go with 5w-20 run it during cold weather ans switch when spring comes around.
