I'm in the Pacific Northwest and for some reason there's a LOT of 6th (and 5th) generation Civics around here. On way more than one occasion I've counted Civics on the way home from work (30 miles - mostly lightly travelled highway) and I see five to six 6th gens on average, with fewer 5th and still fewer 7+.
I've had my 1999 since new, and it currently has 147k miles. What is it with 6th gens - are they that bulletproof? Production figures suggest I should see more newer Civics - unless for some reason they were extremely popular up here prior to the year 2000 and then not so much. I've never had a problem with mine (besides the ignition switch recall - never had a problem with the ignition switch itself). Everything that's not a wear item is original and has never required repair, to include the clutch, A/C, starter, alternator, radiator, CD head unit, power windows/locks, etc. Only tires and brake pads/shoes have been replaced. Even the rotors and drums are original.
Mine has been garaged since new and meticulously maintained. I see some real beaters that seem to run just fine going down the highway, but they have may have been repaired multiple times. I'm pretty easy on cars: Of my new cars I've gotten 199,545 out of a 1989 Geo Spectrum and 199,740 out of a 2002 Sentra (which would have been more had the local 'experts' not screwed up the clutch job - twice) with essentially no repairs. The Geo had a broken clutch cable and needed a new radiator. The Nissan was fine until a non-dealer shop worked on it.
This is a long lead-in to, how long do these things last? Any one owner 6th gen'ers please reply. Or anyone else!

Nothing is bulletproof and nothing lasts forever...but money can fix most problems LOL
I think most of it depends on how the car is cared for.
Some people can trash a car in just a couple years and low mileage, other people can still have a pristine looking car at 20 years and 300,000+ miles.
Some cars might be a rolling death trap, others drive very well because they have been cared for.
I'm in the rust belt, we have a few regular Honda customers with 300k+ miles....and I've seen various Hondas here with over 400k showing on the odometer.
If one can rack up the miles before it rusts away.

I currently own two 7th gens
A 2002 ex coupe automatic with 162k this one I am going to sell soon because I really have no use for a coupe anymore. It's been a great car but I have done some regular maintenance on it, only unconventional thing I had to do was a new head gasket
And a 2003 lx 5 speed with 197k 4 door I bought this car to replace the coupe it runs great but was in a wreck I just finished replacing the core support now on to the srs my next challenge I have been working on this slow when work allows and I hope to have it done soon
However, I just picked up a 6th gen 1999 civic lx automatic with 272k for $800.00 from my buddies lot. A Middle Aged women traded it in for a 2011 he had with 22k This car has been metiiculasly maintained and is spotless paint and interior is in great shape. it runs like a top she had a book of all the receipts and fuel logs for Milage
I actually bout it so I could part with my 2002 since I have had offers on it.
I honestly believe it's all in how it was maintained and how it was driven the 2003 and 1999 were both used as commuter cars to Pensacola from mobile each day and really racked up the miles
