So I bought a civic ex, 98, and it works great. One thing I found was that the oil dipstick tube was loose and moving around. At one point, I pulled it out entirely. The tube is still in good condition. But I wanted to know if anyone can give me advice on whether I should 1) get a new tube and install it, or 2) how to install mine so it doesn't move and come out. Because it comes out every time I check the oil.

Side note, is it ok if I put a new oil pan on the car without replacing the oil gasket? Mechanic said it would be better. Just wanted more opinions.

cant you just hold the tube in place while you pull the dipstick out?

im pretty sure that will leak.....very bad

replace the gasket, or at very least use some high temp silicone

Yes but wouldn't you feel better if you knew everything under the hood is secured?

There's supposed to be a metal clip securing the tube to the lower timing cover.
