Getting started with a 1999 Civic LX

I just bought a 99 Civic LX with 59k miles.

Because of the low mileage this will replace my '07 Mazda 3 (180k miles) as my daily driver.

What changes can be made to gain about 15 horse?

This is a D16Y7, I want to stick with this low mileage engine. Can 15hp in gains be made on this engine while staying naturally aspirated?

If so what is the best way to accomplish this. I'm new to the Civic as a car, but enjoying it thus far.

go over the engine and make sure everything is in good order, then the rest of the car, intake, header, mid-pipe, exhaust. If you do all that and still aren't happy, throw a stage one cam in, problem solved. Looks like it has potential, welcome to the Honda family and the forum.

So intake, headers, exhaust and cam?

Also this is a 4 speed auto, so I don't think hondata will work with it.

I'd need to piggyback on the ecu to take advantage of cam changes? Or am i incorrect?

I'm new to this so pardon my ignorance.

no worries man, no ignorance only questions, we all have to start somewhere, as far as I understand there aren't off the shelf cams for the y7 only regrinds, (I don't own a y7) but being an automatic I don't see the possibility of it working regardless, from what ive read the best first step for you is a "mini me" swap which is just adding a vtec head to your motor, whether its a y8 or z6 comes down to what you wanna do, the intake header and exhaust will do something but not exponentially. A lot of people will tell you to motor swap or manual swap, do what you want, its your car.
