ok, What i mean by that is every 2 weeks i have a new issue.
1998 LX 1.6
This week i have one that has me completely stumped.
I just finished a re-build in Feb with tax $, and still roaming problems.
You'll have to read profile for all I've done.
here's the problem,...
Cold start misfires random and highly noticeable.
After warm up, occasional misfire #1 cyl, backfires leaving lights/stop signs
in neutral not as pronounced, in park very pronounced.
I stopped engine twice w/blinking MIL, i know about cat conv damage.
I plugged for codes...I would post them but, 16 is a lot to post.
Everything from P1121, P1300, P1660 P0720
I'm baffled, so i cleared them, got exchange on Ignition parts
Cap, Button, Wires, Plugs all new, normal wear on plugs, not white
started up same thing.Ran up and down road, same thing,
open cap started up, did not shoot water from radiator.
Then i changed out the AIC and re-cleaned intake.
still there, Checked Injectors, replaced seals voltage was right.
checked Battery, 12.11 standing, 14.8 started.
inspected every wire including blue module under intake.
found no signs of fray/burns.
OK, this is why i call it roaming....
2 weeks ago overheating, bled air, fixed.
1 week before that, no start after shut down, main relay, fixed.
2 weeks before that, no spark, ICM changed, fixed.
a few days before that, low fuel pressure stalling at stop, bad relay, fixed
ALL these issues were there before re-build, 2 weeks after re-build problems started up again........I am so lost on this one.
ECU was checked by Honda Dealership, came back no issues.
still, Random wild codes, all over the place, reset 4 times.
Every time i reset, i still get multi mis-fire with different random codes.
sorry for the long post, I never changed the CAT Convert.....
Could that cause all these issues, i know that it regulates back pressure and it cannot run without it, yes O2 sensors did show up on 2 of 4 reads
It's like the car has some sort of electrical fault
OH...Distributor checked out too, no issues, IN/OUT

Um, I'll say to start with a compression test.


During your rebuild, did you (or machine shop) check flatness of the head and have it resurfaced if necessary?

Did you adjust the valves during assembly?

You have cleared all codes from memory........
Now it reset several codes several times?
Does it consistently set the same codes now?
Post the current code list, let me see if I notice any common denominators.

AND.......explain your 45 minute head gasket shortcut please. That might influence my thinking about what might be wrong.

I found it, the main ECU ground tied to thermostat housing,
Someone suggested i pull back sheath and check for damage,
sure enough, it was badly corroded and hanging on by a thread.
it was about a half inch up the sleeve, not sure of cause....
i found it checking symptoms here...

yes head was done at machine shop, I installed new parts to head,
checked clearance before and after 100 miles and then at 500

As far as the head gasket goes we found it on here,
I'll look for it...................

we each were doing something while one guy told told us what to do next..
basically were all good friends no egos and just beat it down,

OK so problem solved,
I should have looked closer at wires and jiggled with car running,
Who would have thought to look there!!

That head gasket was changed Dec 12', this Feb 14' we tore the engine down and replaced just about everything, what we didn't was sent off for inspection, pistons, cam shaft, head, sent the intake off to be cleaned, dropped the fuel tank, replaced lines, pump and filters. all hoses, at my wife's request we used all the HPS products that we could, she saw the blue ones on-line.. it does look badash ..I do know a lot about cars, but, we all can learn and we all make mistakes, heck, no ones perfect,
That's why there are Awesome sites like this one, for when you get stumped.
So the answer is , No, we did it right thanks to --->speedfoos<---

Thanks for your advice, i did go down the road of a bad head gasket, it happens, even though it's 5 months old and the head was machined at a well known VERY expensive shop here, took him about 2 weeks to get it back to me, busy guy!
I ruled out head gasket when i checked plugs and replaced them,
and i also opened rad cap and started engine, no blow out, watched for bubbles.
also checked dip stick and oil cap for milk. no smoke either, i had a feeling it was something electrical or the cat convert, just didn't want to spend that $280
I'm lucky i found this site that one day broke down with my buddies and an android phone, and also Blessed to have good friends willing to drop off parts, tools and jump in to help out, just glad it happened at 10am and not 3pm....
Again thanks for advice, willingness to help out is a fading commodity, sad but true.
