Changed plugs, started great, quit after 5 mins, now won't start

I have a 2000 Civic Si, no major problems with it. Just changed my cap and rotor (honda parts), wires (NGK) and plugs (NGK Iridium power). I cleaned my battery a bit with some baking soda and water. I have been doing most of my own repairs for 20 years. The car started right up and ran smooth and while I was cleaning up and letting the ECU recalibrate (I had the neg battery wire off previously) the suddenly stopped running. I have not been able to start it since. It turns over real strong but acts like the thing has no spark or fuel.

I did leave off the internal safety shield that used to be in the cap since it made it hard to get at the rotor screw. I assume this just acted as a high voltage safety barrier for the mechanic but has no other function. I recall all the wiring looked real tight to the distributor body, so can't see any issue with leaving it off.

Help!

So see if it has spark and fuel.

Put it back, it was in there for a reason.
A missing coil shield can cause P1381 code.

Re: Changed plugs, started great, quit after 5 mins, now won't start

I was only able to get back to the car at the end of the day. I pulled the dist., the rotor looked fine. I took it off and put the shield back on. Had the neg terminal of the battery off in case the ECU needed to reset. Still does not start.

I put the plugs in with the socket, finger tight and then a half turn. I don't see anything wrong. I did notice that the spark coils only has a spring on it and was wondering if I dropped some other piece that would touch the terminal in the cap. After looking online it doesn't seem so.

I guess I'll buy an OBD-II reader and see if anything pops up.

Like I said, it ran for 5 mins real smooth so this is bizarre. I called my mechanic and he said the computer shouldn't shut things down if there is anything weird and the only thing he could think of is a broken rotor, which it is not.

The car has been running pretty well for years and I doubt something unrelated happened coincidentally.

Any other ideas????
