Unhappy 96 Honda civic idling high problem

Okay so I got a check engine light for my map sensor so I replaced it.
I don't have a check engine light but now my car idles high at 2k rpm then it goes down to 1 then jumps back and forth kinda like it revving. And it's getting hard to shift, sometimes it grinds in reverse and first.... I have no idea what it could be!! Any ideas? (

Re: 96 Honda civic idling high problem

Pull your throttle body and clean it with CARB cleaner the best you can.
Change your transmission fluid (with honda fluid) Is it MT OR AT?
Do an idle relearn (search site for "idle relearn")

Re: 96 Honda civic idling high problem

I would say your transmission syncros are starting to get worn if it's a manual, ultimately the only solution is a complete rebuild but you could replace the fluid with GM synchromesh to extend the transmissions life.

As for the high idle, start by cleaning the throttle body and IAC valve then doing a idle relearn. If that doesn't work you might need to replace the IAC valve.

Re: 96 Honda civic idling high problem

High idle usually indicates a vacuum leak.
