98 civic radio prob.

One of the guys in my club has a 98 civic Ex sedan. When he removes his stock stereo his interior lights don't work and his keyless entry doesn't either. It works when it's in just not after he takes it out. Does anyone know how to bypass this? To remove this ad, register today for free or log in if already registered!

It's not a fuse blowing out? Sounds like it to me...

Not a fuse prob. man. It works when you put th radio back in. It's some sort of wiring problem. I think there is something in the radio that controls it or allows it to opperate.

aight dude..

u needa do a few things. since the radio installation has already been done, thas a problem unless you want to take it out. you need to buy a wire harness that splits into a second power cord so you can have your stock CD player still plugged in but shoved back into the bakc area of the car. . . . thas unclear...... here.

download that .PDF file and it tells you how to do everything. i followed it all and it took my friend and i less than 2 hours. it took us the longest time to get the stock radio back behind the dash. if you get that far, it's harder than they make it look but if u want i can show you were i put it because it doesn't get in the way in is a lot easier. have fun!

Yah man. In 96-98 Civics, the keyless entry module is embedded IN the damn stock radio -- as well as two wires which control the 'lighted-entry' domelight/door functions. Brilliant. So if you took it out and tossed it, you can either: a) dig it out of the trash and follow the pdf, or b) go to ebay and buy another stock radio for 6th gen Civic. Pain in the ass, but no one ever said Honda engineers were cool...

For $30, you can pick up an aftermarket keyless entry module/remotes off eBay, and be done w/ the whole damn Honda OEM mess . Ever notice how the Honda keyless has a "pulse timed" lock which locks your doors no-matter-what after 15-20sec? That damn POS locked me out of my car recently. My eBay keyless is going in this weekend and I am gonna be so glad to get that OEM crap out of the center console and in the trash where it belongs.

Wiring harness

After reading through the above guide I began looking for a harness that would allow me to have both factory and aftermarket hooked up at the same time. Here is a link a wiring harness on Crutchfield that has everything done for you:

Easy wiring harness
