Cool 96 EX seems to lack power

Recent tuneup including a igniter and coil. It had been missing under load. It doesn't miss anymore. I have set timing a couple of degrees more advanced than what it calls for. Engine has 90,000 miles and sounds great.
When accelerating, this is a manual trans car,it seems to be holding back and you sense a slight surging at lower RPMs{between 2to 4 grand}. It seems to run fine when you get to where the V-tech takes over. I would think it should have more power in the lower RPM range. Maybe I'm expecting too much. I don't feel I have a fuel problem. No check engine light on. Has anyone had similar experiences like this? Thanx,Tom

Re: 96 EX seems to lack power

Gearbox,
The clutch isn't slipping. The Rpm's are steady. Just seems like almost a flat spot in the power range. Tom
