Overheated my 2000 civic si... what to do now?

My 2000 Civic Si overheated after the radiator cap cracked and the coolant leaked out. Wish I would have noticed sooner, but I did not realize until the car began slowing down... The engine has not seized, but it will not start.

I had anticipated paying a mechanic to change the timing belt and water pump, but now I purchased a Chilton's manual and am hoping to try to fix the problem myself. Any recommendations for the best way to try and diagnose the specific problem?

I previously replaced my radiator, changed my oil, replaced lights etc., but I know this is much more intensive. Am I completely delusional to think I can tackle this? Any advice is helpful.

youre prolly gonna have to at least tear the motor apart and see what happened. take the head off, check both the head and block for warping, change the gasket, etc.
