1997 Honda Civic Coupe DX - Automatic transmission problem (harsh shifting)

When it changes gears, my car chokes inbetween shifting. I googled this and came up with this: http://autorepair.about.com/cs/faqs/l/bl127e.htm

Ughh.. I think I'm having this problem.. A new linear solenoid costs 142$ he says. That's not too bad, why does this problem feel a lot more expensive than it is? How much is this going to run me? Judging from the TSB posted on that site it's a fairly common problem. Has anyone else had it? Please give me any advice, I've emailed my local honda dealer to see if they'd do a goodwill service for my car. I'm a 19 year old student going to college and working, I hope I don't need to replace the tranny... Any advice is absolutely welcome!

Hey dude, I got the same problem with my 1998 Civic LX automatic. I just posted here:
1998 Honda Civic Automatic Transmission slippage

I haven't done it yet...but from my research on the web, I couldn't find anyone who did it and it worked. Most people end up getting a rebuild, but thats too expensive.
