intake and exhaust...

Im not the best with cars, but i no the basics of the intake and exhaust. I have a 99 civic hatchback and my good friend told me he has a intake and exhaust in his garage for civics. Can anyone tell me the good and the bad of putting these in my car?
Thank you

Re: intake and exhaust...

The simple answer is that the good thing is that your engine will flow more air and gain maybe 10HP at high rpms. The bad thing is that you will loose torque in the low rpms and get poorer gas mileage. It will also be louder which you may or may not like.

Re: intake and exhaust...

Well dude, really. I can't predict exactly how a mod will affect your car. I don't know your setup and how you drive.

But to clarify what I wrote earlier. Improving the volume of air through your engine is only beneficial at high rpms when the engine demands it. So ask yourself how often you drive between 5-8000 rpm.

Re: intake and exhaust...

When I put my full after market exhaust and intake on and started using LC20 and FP Plus I only saw gains. My mileage went from 25-32 to a steady 35. Then again I don't generally drive like an asshole and I shift at 3k

Wow, your stock pipes must have really been clogged yet, because honda would spend millions for gains like that.

Intake and Exhaust mods are a waste of money unless you want cool sound, without a tune.

If you don't know how to tune, but you want to have your car sound fast, it is a good idea.

Re: intake and exhaust...

I think the LC20 and FP Plus had a lot to do with it...

Re: intake and exhaust...

you only get worse mpg if you drive hard... if you drive like your trying to save gas and shift at like 1.9k rpm's and stuff you'll get alot better... i/h/e got me from avg of 25-26 to 29-30 and thats not even driving slow all the time..

Re: intake and exhaust...

The only negative that I had with the intake is that after it hits a certain rpm, it would wistle. I heard that its normal for the gen 6 civics and I got annoyed by it. The intake and muffler combo was orgasmic (Injen CAI and Magnaflow muffler). I sold the intake a while back and now im just running an A/M muffler. I might be considering a new CAi (I miss the combo, not the wistle )
