i'm new to this but wouldn't you need to do a projector conversion kit for it to work the best?

Keep an eye on the age of posts. This particular post is from 2007, so its 2 years old. No. Projector conversion is not a good thing to do as projectors tend to leak and are not as high quality as OEM lenses. Actually, sometimes putting HID's in projectors causes the lenses to actually melt. That's why you get an HID kit which replaces the stock internals of the OEM lenses. It's the best way to go.
