Keyless entry

I have a 2002 civic ex, without buying a key fob and trying to program it... anyone know how I can check to see if my car has it? I bought it and it only came with a key. Thanks

Pop off the cigarette lighter panel and look for that green plug and box.

Re: Keyless entry

Yes so mine does have the box. So my next question is, can I order any key fob off amazon? I noticed in the descriptions of the listings they state "replaces so and so models" how do I know which ones for my car? Thanks!

Re: Keyless entry

I think I got a used OEM one but I don't see why any of the ones that say 01-05 wouldn't work. 3 buttons lock, unlock and panic.

A correct one would be best.

I think there were several OE fobs that look almost identical but are not the same internally.
IIRC the factory equipped units took a different fob part# than the dealer installed accessory type fob but they looked identical on the outside.

Re: Keyless entry

I'd just look up the correct parts in a Honda parts catalog. Might not be the cheapest choice, but at least it's correct....no guessing.

For an 02 EX I came up with Honda part# 72147-S5A-A01

OP, any updates? May have to check this for my 03.

Side note, what's an easy way to pull that cover off? Just pry it?

Re: Keyless entry

You should be set.... best of luck. (but I would look just to confirm module is present 1st)

I imagine over time those fobs would get lost, or tossed in a drawer once the battery died.

Re: Keyless entry

Noted! I'll check. The car was a gift and all I got was the key. Lolol.

Programming it shouldn't be too difficult right? I programmed a couple of fobs for my 09 Accord EX for unlock/lock a year or two.

Re: Keyless entry

Yes programming is easy. And can be found online. The difficult part for me was trying to program two remotes at the same time. For some reason one kept cancelling out the other one. I don't know how I did it but I did end up getting both to work.

Re: Keyless entry

IIRC only 01 EX had keyless option. Likely different MICU from LX.

ive got a circuit tester the yellow is hot while key is on the other is hot constantly and the blue orange one is spliced into the blue orange wire from the ten pin connector behind cigarette plug.
The fob matches the module for sure.

Did you mis-spell TWO?

If you found some random 10 pin connector in the general area, with the same colors on some wire....that's not right.
You must find the correct TWO pin connector that contains the MICU data communication line (it's the only wire in the connector).
