Sputtering and rough idle check engine light on

Hi there,
We have a 2005 civic ex our daughter put gas in it today she drove a while with no issue. Later in the evening we drove to location for about 30 minutes when we returned and started it it has a rough idle and when she pulled out it sputters and the check engine light flashes. Her dad checked the gas cap he turned it for the clicks...it has been raining all day, cold we have gotten bad gas? Other ideas?

FYI head gasket was replaced within the last year, no smoke or other indicators...

Thank you!

Lots of possibilities. Please post the code PXXXX that you have. Autozone and similar will scan the code for free. You can post the code or search here on it.

Flashing "check money" light is misfire.
Post the code(s).
Cause of misfire will need to be determined.

Did she fill it up with diesel by accident?

Is that even possible? I thought the diesel nozzles at the pumps are larger than the gas ones and won't fit in the filler neck. You could possibly put gas in a diesel vehicle though.

some older gas stations will leak water into the tanks, try putting some Seafoam or fuel stabilizer into the gas tank and drive it for a couple days then get back to us.
