Engine swap between 6th and 7th gen honda civic

I currently have a 2003 Honda Civic LX Sedan, but I ran into a little body trouble. I was thinking about just finding a cheap car with a busted engine and doing a swap. I found a cheap 1998 Honda Civic EX Coupe. Can I swap the engines between the two generations?

Legally you cannot put an older motor into a newer chassis. For this reason motor mounts for said swap likely do not exist.

^ This.

Someone did swap a B series into a 7th gen. Depends how your state takes those sort of things. It will all be custom though. Better off putting in a K series out of an old CR-V or Accord.

Guys, sounds like OP wants to put the d17a1 in the ej8 chassis, not the d16y8 in the es1. In that case, it would be legal. Finding motor mounts, however, will be tricky.

You'd likely have to go full custom on the swap, which would probably end up being unreasonably expensive
