EX coupe FOB Factory??
Just got this car, its a 2001 civic EX coupe
found an "extra" wire while doing a quick pre purchase inspection, otherwise all stock. I now think the wire is to a alarm system.
I've searched a good bit on youtube, but do not see the remote fob that I was given with the car.
I have 2 keys, one ILCO for the ignition, and a strattec for the doors
the fob in the photo takes 2, CR2016's
Question:
Is this an OEM FOB ??
will I be able get a 2nd ignition key made at a non dealer key shop??
Thanks
Sorry if I missed the answer in a prior post

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: EX coupe FOB Factory??
Fob is not from Honda.
An EX would have been equipped at the factory with keyless entry.
As for keys, you would need a correct key and it needs to be programmed to the car (immobilizer) if the blank can't be "cloned". Inquire with your key seller before attempting.

Factory fob would have been this style (may or may not have the trunk button)

The factory fob I received when I first got my 02 looked much like this one
It broke a long while ago and replaced it with the one that ezone posted up

Thanks for the replys guys!
as a follow up
My locksmith noted that the door, and ignition keys have different cuts.
Is this standard for Honda?
Or has one of the locks been rekeyed??
THANKS

(I would like to believe that) anyone with enough brain cells and lock tumblers to rekey a lock would make them all use the same key.

Re: EX coupe FOB Factory??
Oh yeah, I knew, I just had no reason to have an opinion until locksmith asked if that was normal
Both are aftermarket keys, but the ign has more wear
I put batteries in the fob (omega 4415)
and it does nothing. dunno if its lost its programming, or if it just was for the alarm I noticed underhood
eh, yes, but as an example, My speed needed its PCM replaced, it came with a ign set which I swapped in (still needed dealer reflash) so I now have different door /ign (though they also sent the door tumbler, PIA to replace so, for now, 2 keys.
Now I have to search for a how to on the FOB prog, that at least was easy on the speed, hoping the honda as well
THANKS

If you are trying to program that non-factory fob, you need to find the alarm (or remote start) control unit and google that manufacturer, see if you can get some instructions for it.
If you have obtained a correct Honda fob, that's a piece of cake to program yourself....assuming nobody screwed with it when they installed aftermarket stuff.
