Weird Vibration after HeadGasket replacement.

Been driving the Civic for 2 weeks (& after almost 1000 miles) now after a Head Gasket, Head (that was cracked) & a Radiator replacement. The timing belt, water pump, O2 Sensor & Cat Convertor were are replaced 2 weeks before that.

1. The car now vibrates on & off, like an old diesel engine truck. Its like a misfire feel, but CEL never comes up. The spark plugs are all good & the guy (pepboys) who did the Head job said this vibration is due to some possible dirt in the fuel.
The car drives & sound smooth while on a drive... But at idle, its alternate smooth to vibration. The whole car now vibrates like an old Diesel Truck on & off...

2. At low RPMs the AC doesn't blow cold air as it does while driving (RPM over 2000). I feel, there is a connection between the vibration & this weird AC behavior.

Appreciate your suggestions... Thanks.

Mileage ~ 164000

Make sure the CEL still works first. Turn the key on but don't start the engine, does the CEL light up?

Do both radiator fans turn on when the AC kicks on? If they don't, that would explain a lot.

Other thoughts: Cam timing, neutralizing motor mounts, and Idle relearn

Take it back to the shop for a recheck. "Dirt in the fuel" is a BS answer for "i have no clue".

Re: Weird Vibration after HeadGasket replacement.

the first picture with the oil cap and valve cover, it looks like you are missing a bracket that secures the A/C line, this is not a huge deal, but should be replaced,

the second picture is very scary....WTF?....that motor mount is not secured properly...or at all, that needs to be addressed ASAP,

***EDIT***....wait a minute, you just had the head gasket replaced?.....holy crap that shop F-ed up big time that motor mount is why your engine is vibrating, somebody forgot to re-attach this....sorry to say this, but what a garbage job they did

.

Re: Weird Vibration after HeadGasket replacement.

I was driving for lunch, after about 5-6 miles a loud noise started from under the hood. Parked the car, found these, just got the car towed to the shop.

Noise - did I screw up engine???

this should all be covered by the shop....they botched this job big time, they should be making this right for you free of charge, there is no doubt in my mind this is their fault

Re: Weird Vibration after HeadGasket replacement.

I don't see a problem here. Can you point it out?
The open bolt hole in the corner of the valve cover is not used on this application IIRC.
Or maybe it is and I can't remember it.

Next pic:

Can you turn the pic right side up? My cat is looking at me like "WTF?"

HOLY POOP they broke the studs off from the mount bracket!
That ain't just loose, that's BROKE THE F*** OFF!

I'd guess someone hammered them with an impact gun until they were far too tight.
Makes me wonder about everything else that was touched.

SOMEONE owes you a correct fix for this.
If someone can get the broken stud pieces unscrewed out of the bracket, the studs are available separately.

90380-S10-000 is the part number for the studs, you need 2 of them.

Re: Weird Vibration after HeadGasket replacement.

Ok... Looks to be resolved (as far as I know).

Pic 1 - that was for the screw holding AC clamp. I saw that the clamp was off (may be it cudnt bear the vibration from the motor). They put a new one & looks fine now.

Pic 2 - not sure what exactly happened, they screwed up the mount screws. When I asked them about the vibration, you know what he said (bad fuel)... Anyways, they installed new bolts and I feel that it's secure. No vibrations what so ever.

AC - probably the free ons is low. I'll drive.and check the car for couple weeks and then I'll fix them all together.

Re: Weird Vibration after HeadGasket replacement.

the coat hanger they wrapped around your A/c line is a bit sketchy, but i guess could do

if the engine mount is secured properly, then i guess it should be okay, impossible for me to tell with pics though

After seeing all the damage done so far, I'd say to go back and ask "Mr. Goodpliers", the one that thinks it's OK to use coathanger to replace a missing bracket. See if you get that answer of dirt in the fuel again.
