reverse lights hell

Civic LX 2003. OK, I'm at my wits end. I was checking all lights before inspection, as I usually do. Reverse lights, OK. Emergency lights, OK. Brake and tailight, OK, except on left side. Neither worked on that side. No sweat. That 7443 bulb had both filaments burned out. Replaced that bulb, and brake and tailights now all work. BUT, now the reverse lights don't. They just stopped working. WTF? I *think* the reverse light is fuse 19, and that seems fine. What am I missing??? Does this have anything to do with replacing the tail/brake light?

Re: reverse lights hell

Well, OK. This was weird. After all that, the backup lights started working again. All fine. Is this how the backup light switch fails? Gotta keep my eye on this thing.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: reverse lights hell

If it's a sedan with the back up lights in the trunk lid.......

Make the backup lights stay on then go open the trunk lid slowly a few times while watching the lights. If they go out as you open or close the trunk, then you probably have a broken wire in the harness at the hinge area.
