Battery?

A few months before; my brother told me he had 2 instances where he'd start the car and it wouldn't crank nor had any sound (lights and everything were fine). I never had a problem then, but for the last 2 months, it started progressing that symptom. For the last month, I definitely wouldn't been able to start the car in the cooler mornings (around 45-60f) no matter how many times I try (lights and everything on dash still seems/seemingly fine). But I can start the car fine everytime it gets warmer in the day. Is it the battery? I just tested it and was at 12.6 volts but I heard the battery can still be bad with a different type of test even if the volts where at correct range. *Want to check starter, but can't hammer it at the location .

*If and also, what's a good battery I can buy?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: Battery?

Does NOT sound like a battery to me.
Maybe starter issue, maybe wiring.

You have a voltmeter. Connect it to strategic points on the starter wiring to test.

See if the small female spade terminal on the small starter wire doesn't grip the male terminal tightly.

Have someone else sit in it and twist the key while you hammer it.

Re: Battery?

Does the car have a manual transmission? If it does I'd say take a look at the clutch pedal interlock switch. Mine is sketchy in the cold. If I depress the clutch pedal a second time it will start. Majestic wants $35 for the switch. I'm thinking I might jumper the switch.

Yes, it's manual transmission.

Forgot to addon; sometimes, when the temperature starts to get warmer, after 2-3 tries, on the 'try' that turns over, it takes like half a second to a second at "start" position and then actually turns on... no stutter. I will be hooking up jumper cables tomorrow morning and if it starts up, I'll blame it on the battery. *Connections are good as I know.

Re: Battery?

Can you take it to an autoparts store and have them test the battery and charging system? It was free (I did it before I figured out it was the interlock switch).
I'm not going to advise shorting the interlock switch out, but you might want to try that. Just short pins 1 & 2 together. See if the problem continues...
I haven't had a problem since... someday I will get a new switch from Majestic Honda, but until I can spare $40....

Re: Battery?

There's 2 switches on the clutch pedal. Only one is for the starter, and it's the hard one to reach.
