Post 2005 Honda Civic HX CVT fluid

I am hoping to get a good opinion of what type of CVT fluid to put in my car's transmission, which is a 2005 Honda civic hx. I have owned it 8000 miles and it is currently at 80,000. I have seen others recommend using the old z-1 fluid recommended by the manual. but the dealer tells me to use the "Honda CVT fluid". I have also seen that dw-1 fluid is supposed to repurposed for the z-1, but I am weary of both of these options this as this is Honda's old CVT setup. Please, any tips from previous owners of this car would be great.

Whatever the owners manual says.... and OEM fluid of course.

Edit: Sorry, your manual says Z1/DW1 ?? That seems strange.

ezone should chime in on this one hopefully.

Re: 2005 Honda Civic HX CVT fluid

The manual tells me that i need to use z-1 atf, but trying to find information, somebody mentioned that the z-1 has been phased out by the dw-1, and that is what i should use. This being a tender transmission i want to make sure i put in the best i can find out about for it.

Yes, DW1 is the replacement for Z1.

My 2010 started getting DW1 early on (50k/2nd drain and fill) while still had powertrain coverage.

I was under idea that CVT had it's own fluids.

Re: 2005 Honda Civic HX CVT fluid

Is your tranny a CVT? I believe they do have their own fluids, and the z-1 is meant for use in my specific CVT according to the words of the manual.
So I guess I need assurance on whether that property translates to the new dw-1 for use in all of this generation's CVTs, or if the old style CVT will become problematic if I use the new style fluid in it. thank you

Re: 2005 Honda Civic HX CVT fluid

Mine is the 5 speed auto, and came with Z1 new.

ezone will chime in, wait to here his suggestion if you can.

Honda claims this is the direct replacement for outgoing (now gone) Z1.

Re: 2005 Honda Civic HX CVT fluid

The original fluid may have been ATF.
We do not use it any longer.
We only use Hondas CVT fluid in CVT transmissions now.

This is the current correct fluid for that car.

Not to be confused with the newest version of CVT fluid HCF-2 for 13 and newer Accord and 14 and newer Civic, and a couple others.
