SRS Light issue.

A few months ago I went to the dealer due to a factory recall on my 2001 Honda Civic EX Coupe. While my car was there I was informed that the SRS light that was on was due to a faulty driver's side seat belt (which was replaced by the dealer). It was the first time I had no lights turned on at all and I was super happy about it. A week later the SRS light turned back on and I have had no luck in finding what the problem could be . Anyone have any ideas?

Re: SRS Light issue.

very few code readers can read honda specific codes, except for the dealer ones.

or are you trying to eyeball what the computer are trying to tell you? (not gonna happen on a SRS light...)

did you hook a code reader when you say "I have had no luck in finding what the problem could be"?!?

Re: SRS Light issue.

No, just looking around on the internet. And most people said that when their seatbelt got replaced the issue went away.

lol i've had this issue forever i just reset it every time but it would be great to know how u can figure out the exact problem (u know, without replacing a seatbelt).

sometimes i reset the srs light and it stays off for months. sometimes it'll be back on the next day lol so random..

mine i think is a loose wire somewhere, as i can see the seatbelt wires are underneath my two front seats and the SRS light usually comes on whenever i've adjusted the seats.

so frustrating i wish i knew how to test the wires and find out what caused the light to come back on every time.

Re: SRS Light issue.

It means the car's computer has detected a problem w/your airbag(s)
Here what Honda has to say about the extended warranty:

BACKGROUND
several vehicle models may have a problem with the
OPDS (occupant position detection system) that
causes the SRS indicator to stay on. Typically, one or
more of these DTCs will be set:
%u2022 SRS DTC 15-1 (faulty OPDS unit or OPDS not
initialized)
%u2022 SRS DTC 15-2 (faulty side airbag indicator circuit)
%u2022 SRS DTC 15-3 (faulty OPDS sensor)
To ensure continued reliability with the OPDS,
American Honda is extending the warranty on the
OPDS unit and the OPDS sensor to 10 years or
150,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

You will need to take the car to the dealer to have it checked to see if this is the problem that is causing the light to come on. There should not be a charge to check it if it is the condition that is covered by the extended warranty.
It is not a fuse and the airbags will not go off when the light SRS light is on; whenever the SRS light is on the airbag system is disabled. Unless you have the special tool, you can't just turn the light off; even if you did, it would come back on the next time you drove the car.

interesting. i reset mine using a paperclip and sometimes it stays off for months. sometimes comes back on a few days later or that same day.. but definitely not the next time i drive my car.. it's been longer than 10 years, im in canada not sure if that 150,000 miles counts here as we go by KM here.. wouldn't u need to be the original buyer of the car to even go through the honda warranty? i bought the car used off someone not through any dealership
