Rep Power: 0 2-3 shift flare on 2002 lx auto
All,
I've got a slight shift flare between 2nd and 3rd on my 2002 LX auto with about 175K on it. The car is new to me, so I can't tell you how long it's done this.
RPMs raise about 100-200 when making this shift. It only does it for like the first couple of shifts when cold, then it's fine. I can even almost prevent it if I back off on the throttle during those first couple of shifts.
I've been draining and refilling trans fluid with Maxlife (now at 2X). Haven't really noticed a change either way.
Is this usually an electrical issue (solenoid) or mechanical in nature? Just wondering if there is anything I should look to repair, or just drive it and forget it.
Thanks!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: 2-3 shift flare on 2002 lx auto
My guess is combination of hydraulic and mechanical. Not electric.
175k, it's probably over the hill.
2 choices: Fix it now or fix it later.
Have enough money available to buy a trans job when craps the bed and absolutely needs one......And keep driving until it craps the bed.
????????????????????????
Keep doing exactly this, and it could last a long time.

Yes, both the shift and linear has filters.

Thanks - I believe I had come across that diagram but could never find the solenoids as pictured. I thought it was for a different model (Accord perhaps?) and am not sufficiently knowledgable about the differences between Honda transmissions to know if they'd be the same.
