Rep Power: 0 2001 Civic Steering Died
Hi! My son is using our 2001 Civic with over 100,000 miles. It's been a great vehicle but over the weekend the steering started to act up and was difficult to turn then something broke and the steering wheel now spins freely. Before I get it towed I'd like to know what I'm looking at to help determine where to take it. Thanks

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: 2001 Civic Steering Died
I'd be looking under the dash to see if the lower steering shaft spins with the column or not. Certainly not an average failure.
In addition to whatever broke to allow the steering wheel to spin freely, it will surely now need a clockspring (cable reel) for the airbag.
