Can I just buy the remote and try to install it with the car? Or do I have to buy another component for it to work?

you can use the romote start and alarm yes but thats it unless you have power locks installed. what do you mean just the romote it needs a brain to. also you need to bypass the immobilizer.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

No.

You would need to start with that, because you can't have remotes without power locks in the first place.
The keyless accessory kit only consisted of fobs and a receiver (and wiring), not the power door locks..... and it looks like the kit is no longer available through Honda anyway.
Aftermarket might be your only choice.
