Radiator Fan

Searched a lot but could not find the proper information.
My car – Honda Civic 2002 LX Auto. I never noticed this but after reading various forums I felt that radiator fan switches on too often in my car. When the car is idle, it switches on immediately after starting the car, stays on for 5 sec and goes off and comes back again after 5 sec. the time for which it comes on and goes off is very consistent, as if there is some timer.
The car is not overheating. Temperature gauge is always in the middle of H and L. is this normal?

Re: Radiator Fan

thats normal yogeshsr.

when ur engines and coolant heats up to a certain temp, it will kick the fans on until it lowers the temp... and it will keep doing this when you are at a stand still (idle). but when you are moving, the air travels through and cools your radiator (so it doesnt use the fan)

ok so thats a different story.

are u starting ur engine from a cold start? or has it already been warmed up?

if u are starting it from a cold start, the fans shouldnt be on for at least 10-15mins

Are you sure your A/C compressor is not also engaging ??

When the engine needs cooling (without A/C on) only 1 fan will come on, not both.

confirmed. both the fan comes on. anything I should start looking urgently?
temperature gauge stays between H and L constantly even after good amount of driving (say 30-45 min).

Re: Radiator Fan

What actual mode is your HVAC set to ??

Is the compressor engaging when the fans run ??

Your temp indicator will be just below half and not budge any higher once at temp.

Re: Radiator Fan

The compressor has a portion in center of the pulley that would not be turning if the compressor is not engaged. It would be turning when engaged.

Easy visual check.

I have finally solved and fixed the fantom spray issue and got the temperture issue resolved I had to replace the thermostate and rubber seal after replacing the cap. It turned out that my operation on the car was more sucessful than the so called trained doctor. I discovered that the replaced racing thermostate seal was not perfectly alighned correctly and that there was a tiny unseen gap in the housing. That tiny gap was often clogged up with tiny bits of debris from the resevor tank when system would make attempts to flow coolant through itself. When the debris either fleww out or was passed the spray would occure as a result of the tiny hole or crack.
