Adjustable Shifter Cables?

I'm always thinking of cheap and innovative ways to do things. As most of you know, a k-swap entails switching to RSX shifter cables. But, what if you could make adjustable shifter cables? The idea was thought of by the man who started the Honda engine swap revolution. Sadly his name slips my mind. I've searched and haven't come across much, but what if you made it in the same fashion as the throttle cable? This pic was taken where I work. Using these with a couple bolts we could adjust the length a lot. Thoughts? Opinions?

I need this idea to work because I just did a auto to manual gearbox swap on my 2001 EU1 Civic with the EP3 shifter and cables on my D-series gearbox, but it only allows me to select 2nd, 4th and reverse, but not 1st, 3rd or 5th. If I open the bonnet, sink the clutch, and have someone pull the mechanism on the gearbox itself in the engine bay forward just before a gently release the clutch, the car goes in first and third easily, so I know that the cable isn't "pushing" far enough. Unfortunately, the EP3 cables aren't adjustable in length.
