New here just picked up 01 civic 211k miles

Hey guys new here just picked up a 2001 civic EX coupe dark blue 5-speed 211k miles for $900

The body is rough, specifically the driver side fender and passenger door. already located both for $200 same color.

Contemplating either flipping the car after getting new clean parts or keeping

The civic runs amazing, my sister has an 03 with 40k miles and this car runs just as good/smooth and quiet. underside has no rust anywhere on any suspension or body

What are people averaging city/highway with these cars? also when is the recommended timing belt change interval, this one on the car now has about 70k miles on it according to the previous owner. clutch grabs and does not slip at all but engages kinda high

anyway im leaning towards putting the car on the road so i can have two cars and take my regal to the next level as far as modifications are concerned

the only things i want to do to the car is maybe just headers. are there any real gains to be had running just headers on the ex's motor? anything worthwhile? Ill be posting up some pictures shortly of the car once the weather clears up here

Welcome. Good find, for $900. Timing belt should be good for another 40k. Personally, I'd keep the car, as is. Perform the required maintenance, forget the add ons. Focus your efforts on the Regal. No real gains to be had with a header, or anything else. Work on suspension bits, tires, etc. Better gains to be had here.

Re: New here just picked up 01 civic 211k miles

thanks for the reply! im seeing this after watching alot of youtube videos of these cars with cams headers intakes etc they are just about as slow as my stock 200+k mile civic is which is kinda funny to me. My regal with just a $30 s/c pulley $200 header and a $100 tune is good for high 13's with a decent launch.

I am going to look into maybe doing some suspension stiffening as far as springs and struts and tires. the guy put on honda fit rims/tires and the tires need to be replaced. whats a good size to go for on these cars? as-is the car handles nice to me but is a bit bouncy and leans too much for my liking. im thinking some of the bounce is coming from the shot tires. I may even entertain autoX with the civic as ive always wanted to but the regal never fit the bill, a bit fat to be doing that kind of stuff lol.

i guess a good place to start would be coilovers rear sway bar and tires. dont want to go crazy as this car is a pure gas saver/money saver but it would be nice to have some fun with it i cant ever leave well enough alone. any tips on that would be appreciated

Re: New here just picked up 01 civic 211k miles

mixing it up a bit, Im going to be selling my regal and just rock the civic. dont like how slow it is etc but trying to by a house so i need something i can save gas money with. going by MPG and how much i drive ill be saving $200 a month in gas going from my regal to this civic

snapped a few pics take these as "before" pictures. as you can see the car is disgustingly filthy. guy was a mechanic and he obviously didnt car about the looks, although he deff took care of the mechanics the car runs so mint

found two almost new 205/55/16 tires for $20 on craigslist. looking for two more to get in the next few days to replace the small 185/55's on the rims now.

ordered a new exedy clutch kit for the car, $72 on ebay. dont think its going to come before the trip so hopefully it makes it as its not slipping at all just engages at almost top of the pedal
