Rep Power: 0 Help Please: Speedometer not working "sometimes"
2003 Honda Civic LX sedan
Recently my speedometer is not working preperly. The pointer remains ZERO sometimes when I start the car, while everything is running perfetly, engine is running just great. All other pointers in the dash cluster work as normal.
Most starts the speedometer works just fine, occasionally just wouldn't move at all.
Anyone knows what's going on here???Should I worry about anything?
Thanks a lot

Do the cluster self-diagnostic in the link and if the speedo doesn't sweep like the others replace the cluster.

If you need to replace the cluster try:
1. craigslist
2. every craigslist: http://www.allofcraigs.com/
3. eBay
4. http://www.car-part.com/ (pretty much everybody listed is legit)

I guess my cluster doesn't have a big issue. I am wondering could it be some wire or harness has connection issue, and perhaps need a cleaning job. I am no expert in auto maintenance, so please correct if I am wrong.
Thanks for the tips, now I learned something.

Sounds like a dirty or loose wire/connector, may even be a bad VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). Start at the VSS and look for a dirty/loose connection. Clean or repair as necessary. To test further you need a Honda test harness ($$$) and a multi-meter. The only thing you can do on your own without the test harness is to replace the VSS. Go to the link and put in your model. Look under "ATF pipe-speedometer gear" for auto trans and "clutch release" for the manual trans. Either way it's about $70.
