If you're into performance and want to build your car then this is the perfect opportunity to swap in a k-series engine. It's expensive.
Otherwise, if you just want a daily driver and don't want to spend much money then you can either rebuild yours (you could probably get a quote on that) or swap in a new D17A1 (the same as your engine you had) or a D17A2 which is basically our engine but with VTEC (it's from the Ex model). I've seen D17's on Kijiji for anywhere from 400-900$ but if you want to get it installed professionally then you're going to spend more.
If I was in your position I'd at very least put in a D17A2 with low miles, but probably instead go for a K20. Good luck

You can get d17a2 vtec head for about 400 bucks but in my case i would need to get a vafc 2 controller to bypass the ecu which is another 160-200 bucks. if you dont do it that way you have to get another ecu and get your key reflashed which costs alot. but i can get a new engine block and a rebuild kit for 450 bucks so im just gonna do it that way.
