yes she is very pretty =D... the girls i work with are always telling me that she isn't my girlfriend... or even a person. they like to tease me about the way i talk about her, lol
if you paint the header heat shield make sure to use at least high, heat paint (such as caliper paint). but the best is ceramic exhaust paint.
night everybody, and thank the car gods for "...providing us with the direct-port nitrous... uh... injection, four-core intercoolers, an' ball-bearing turbos, and... um... titanium valve springs...".

in CA, we need a "CARB" sticker...its pretty much an emissions certified sticker.
thats why the AEM is so damn expensive, because its CARB-certified (which only applies for CA)
if u were here in CA, and u were found with an illegal intake, its a nasty fine.

not the stupid bolts around the stock air filter cover.. they are 8mm.. i know that bc me and the NAPA dude were tryin to find one in the store when i was changin mine, and the 10mm wouldnt fit. lol.. but bc he didnt have one for sale, he just let me use one of theirs and i didnt have to buy one that day. now i wish i would have went back and bought one.. so im gonna go pick up a few tomorrow.

Re: Air Intake Questions
its been a few days but. If you get an Ebay intake. #1 Get a better filter. like a K&N #2 the sencor plug on some of the Ebay intakes ive seen sit up to high and you have to extend the wires a little bit to make it fit.
Other then that a intake tube is a intake tube pretty much.
By what ive read an intake does nothing in HP gain for our cars. But it does make a nice sound.

Re: Air Intake Questions
I have a AEM V2 intake with a K&N filter. But the filter is a bit tiny. The filter looks like a midget on a clydesdale. Funny as hell looking but the space around the filter is greater, leaving the intake to take in cooler air flows. I have not noticed any variance in HP and most llikely will not. The only advantage is sound as I now get a tremendous ((("swooosh"))) when I stomp on the accelerator.

yeah, i'd only do it for the sound.. nothin too loud, nothin that sounds like a pissed off bee, but not stock either.. so whatever falls in that category is perfect with me. lol and thanks for the tips about the ebay intake.. i cant decide if i wanna get one of those for now, or just save and get a better one later.. on the fence for sure. :/

My advice for an intake or any mod in general, is to get what you want and not settle, if possible. Saves you money and some remorse in the long run. Check your local ads for good deals on used items. I picked up a brand new AEM V2 on Craigslist, by trading my used Tocikos and Springs. I also like the thought of double walled intakes vs single walled SRIs. Heat soak is a big factor to consider when dealing with intakes. I know the knock on cold air intakes is hydrolock, but the main reason I veered away is no matter what the ambient temperature is at the opening of the intake is, it still has to travel through the hot metal tube to the intake manifold. Temperature readings at the throttle body were basically equal, regardless of type, SRI or CAI, after prolonged use. The hot temp reading will cause the computer to lean out the Air/Fuel ratio, resulting in lower performance. I'm a proponent of heat shields, composite intake materials, powder or ceramic coatings and wrap, because of this. Chrome intakes are a bad idea, from the start. A lot of racers try to alleviate the leaning effect by moving the air sensor closer to the filter, by extending the MAF sensor wires. This is on my list of things to do.

jeez.. i still got a lot to learn about these things.. and i do agree with waiting to get what you want. otherwise your just sad or dissappointed that you settled for something else. why is it that the chrome intakes are a bad idea? i was curious about that when i saw that.. and also.. how hard is it remove the stock and install the new intake? i dunno if there is a DIY anywhere, but would i need a buddy for this?
@ kenny - you should go ****** that one up! $100 aint a bad deal if its in good condition! just make sure ur not a "homey" as the guy said.. lmao

Ever touch something chrome or metal on a hot day in direct sunlight? Ouch! Same concept. Back in my VW days, you knew who was in it for show and who was in it for go. Chrome. There's a reason Ferarri, Lamborghini, Porsche or Honda does not put chrome parts in the engine bay. Chrome is for looks only. Everything is Matte, Painted or Plastic.
I'm sure there are a few DIYs here. I'll see if I can find a link. I'd call it a 2 or 3 on a scale of 1 to 10. Really easy. Screwdriver and a ratchet with a couple of sockets. 15 to 20 minutes, tops.

and yeah, just keep me posted if you find a good DIY.. i just dont wanna jack anything up under the hood. all i know is that stock intake under there is huge.. gonna be a pain to get out. lol.. i mean im sure its easy for someone who's already done it, but im kinda nervous to touch it. lol

Re: Air Intake Questions
Im thinking about cutting a hole in my hood and placing a scoop over the intake. Of course with something porous to let in air but providing protection from the debris that the road has.

Re: Air Intake Questions
my plan was to
~sand off the paint
~use a rottary saw to cut a whole for the scoop (from ebay or walmart stick on)
~use a poprivet gun to rivet the scoop in place
~use body filler to mate the scoop into the hood
~then prime paint and clearcoat.
the only problem is that when it rains you'd need plugs for the scoop.
hood scoops are used usually to cool things like topmount radiators and intake coolers, not usually for air directly going into the engine.

i don't think so if the hood looks nice. it's rice if it's none functional and glued on the hood, lol.
~CAI should make more power then SRI
~problem is with all the bends needed to get out of the cramped engine bay you loose air flow in the seventh. that's why there is no difference in power from the listed dyno's on 7th gens (more my theory then tested, lol)
~so if you had the flow power of the SRI and the cold air of the CAI, why not?

awwww man stop talk'in yo! you're mak'in m'ah ricer side kick in, =D.
what do you think of these numbers?
i'm thinking $100 for scrap hood?
mixed oem paint from canadian tire, base coat $50?
clear and primer $80?
gun $50
rent a compressor
two scoops $100
total cost =$380? almost what i paid for my SRI, lol.

That sounds fairly reasonable, one of my concerns would be the transition from metal to plastic. I don't think you can body fill the two together, but I know little to nothing about body work.
