Re: Removal of chrome accent trim on trunk lid?

metalcast is like a tint spray just so you know. too few coats and it will be spotty, too many and it will be dark solid. its mainly for use on chrome. if you are looking for a smoked chrome look, the metalcast is good but dont overdo it. shadow would look better imo.

Re: Removal of chrome accent trim on trunk lid?

Like gearbox said, you can mess up the metalcast in a heartbeat. 1 and 2 layers make a huge difference

The shadow is a bit easier to use, with great results

Re: Removal of chrome accent trim on trunk lid?

If you are not in a hurry to put the parts back on you and drop them in a bucket of Bleach for a few days and it will eat the chrome plating off and that way the paint would stick better. If I can find the thread I will post the link to how to do this.

Found the link on a old site I use to be on.

Re: Removal of chrome accent trim on trunk lid?

i would put clearcoat on anything exterior. it will protect the paint finish but the clear coats you buy in the store are junk. either have a body shop spray it when they have some extra already made for another car, or go with the alsacorp speed clear which costs like $40 and can only be used once after activating the can. store stuff will look nasty because there will be wrinkles and orange peel. the spray is not fast or powerful enough.

Re: Removal of chrome accent trim on trunk lid?

so i painted it today and i got some pictures of how it turned out. Tomorrow i am going to paint the chrome piece on the hood the same color black as the rest of the car so i think i might just re-do the piece on the trunk in the same color black aswell that way it all goes together.

Re: Removal of chrome accent trim on trunk lid?

came out good. after the paint dries, hit it up with meguiars ultimate compound to bring out the shine.
