Rep Power: 0 Fair Price for a 02 Civic
I am considering selling my 02 Civic LX, with 193K on it. There are minor problems here and there, but the engine runs great still.
What do you think is a fair price for the car either through a private sale or trade-in?
I'm in Canada.

If you get the used vehicle package (depending on where you live in canada) it lists what your car is worth. Take that and lower the price for each defect in the car. If you really plan on selling it you're going to need the used vehicle package anyways

Someone might consider the first problem to be bad enough to not buy.. like me. What's the trim level of the car? Does it have boring steelies or good rims? Is there rust? What's the condition of the interior (things from the seats to how the steering wheel feels). Manual or auto? What options does it have (sunroof, heated mirrors, a/c, cruise). These are all things to consider when naming your price.

I am looking at getting the water leak issue repaired. The trim is LX. Auto. The car has rims for summer tires. I also have a set of winter tires on steel. There is no rust. The interior is in good condition. Car also has a/c, cruise.

Maybe $2000-3000, depending on details of condition (Pics would help. And does it have a clean AutoCheck/CarFax?). Likely on the middle to low end of that range.
(True value, of course. Start higher up to leave yourself some negotiating room, but I don't honestly think you can get over 3 grand out of someone.)

Re: Fair Price for a 02 Civic
My car: I bought my car from a dealership (not a used car lot) and negotiated them to $2999 from their asking price of $3999. Was out the door for just under $3500 (price including state sales tax, title, tags). It's a 2001 Civic EX, 144k miles (at the time), Good condition, Clean AutoCheck report.
Is an '02 with 50k more miles worth more than that? No way in your life.
The most accurate true value of a car would be the Edmunds TMV: http://www.edmunds.com/used-cars/
(Select Year/Make/Model under 'Appraise It'. Enter any Zip Code. Enter 90210 if you want. They make adjustments based on location due to fluctuation in price by area, but it's US-centric. Go ahead and eliminate zip code adjustment from their final report if you're in Canada, since it'll be itemized. After you hit appraise it, you'll have to pick Trim Level, Color, and Condition, then it will spit out the TMV).

Indeed, you have to be delusional to think that KBB is a true value of a car. Their estimates of value are extremely inflated. That's why loan officers don't use KBB when issuing a loan, they use NADA (which is closer to realistic, but still a bit on the high side of things). You'll never get more than the NADA value from a bank (and also, most banks won't give you loans for cars over 7 years old, IIRC).
