Timing belt Service a few questions

Just bought a new civic si 2002.... Needs a timing belt service 102,000 miles , never had one done , (book says 110,000)....but id be pushing my luck i feel like.

Called my local Honda dealership, 799 full service , all belts , waterpump, fluids. now is 799 alot???

or should i shop around at all the local mom and pop places, might take longer but im in school and dont need my car for weeks on end. would i be better off going to them ?

also should i buy a alternator on ebay or honda discount website....and put on a new alternator while the belts are off?.....an extra 125 bucks just for the alternator but would be 1 less thing id ever have to worrie about..

Thanks for the time guys, THIS FORUM is the best ive ever been on!

Re: Timing belt Service a few questions

Do your homework when choosing someone to work on your car. I just had my timing belt done and only paid $585 for it. All belts, seals etc done as well.

Why are you doing the alternator?

alternator because it has 100k on it... and every car ive ever had it usially goes at least once....trying to avoid the problem by replacing it now...and then not having to pay to have the belts off again

Re: Timing belt Service a few questions

He meant on replacing the whole alternator. (but the polishing comment makes me think you understood that )
No, you do not need to do it.
Also, it's easier to do than the timing belt, so can be done later on.
