What is my engine type?

I was just reviewing the net to identify my engine type so I went and looked into the place where the engine type and number should be. I found it and it was: D17Z4 5000237. It also says VTEC on the engine and VTEC and VTI on the rear bumper. I came back to search and see what type of engine I have and it seems this type is pretty old and could not find any other information on it. There were few posts saying something about supercharged engine but apparently this is very old type.
But my civic is 2004 model. I am confused now.
Can somebody explain me please what the situation is here?

Re: What is my engine type?

04 V-TEC should be D17A2 if you did not swap it.
Are you in US?

Check Wiki just for fun.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_D_engine

Since he has VTi on the back then Asian country will be one of them. I remembered my 6th gen has VTi on the back. But somebody managed to steal every single thing off the rear ( rear Honda emblem, Civic and VTi) I was pissed back then.

No. I did not swap it. I am actually second owner and first one did not change either, I am sure. I am in Azerbaijan and this car ordered through dealer here. First I thought it is European model but it seems not. Looks like more Aussie or Thailand type. But not sure yet.

It is not in the list. I did quite a bit search on the net. Could not find anything useful.
You are right, seem more of Asian type.
If it is equivalent to D17A2, then I would be very happy with 127 hp

It should be basically identical to the D17A2, Honda always builds a number of different engines with slightly different specifications, but fundamentally the same design. The biggest variation is generally in the tune of the motor to meet various countries/regions emissions regulations.

Re: What is my engine type?

The temple of VTEC mentioned something on civic's manual stated that the variants of D17Z4 exists on the planet. : )

http://www.vtec.net/forums/one-messa...sage_id=303485

http://www.hondaphil.com/ver2/technologies.php?id=1

It might be the 1.7 engine with VTEC-E.
