Rep Power: 173 unsealed gas cap question
check engine light came on last night. first place i checked was the gas cap and low and behold i found a tiny white plastic piece broken off and i can see where it's broken from the gas cap. when i tighten the gas cap until it clicks, and then let go, it untwists just a little bit preventing it from sealing properly. my question is... is there any danger of driving like this until i get a new gas cap in a few days? it's saturday and everything is closed, and I can't go monday because i dont have time, so i'd drive another maybe 100-200km's before i replace the cap. will this cause any damage?

gas will evaporate, and the check engine light will be on (which prevents you from knowing if the light comes on for a different problem). just get it fixed asap. few days is not a big deal tho, millions of people in this country are driving around with a bad gas cap right now and wasting thousands of gallons of gas, just like the old days when gas tanks did not have to be sealed.
